Description

What Belgian designer Jens Praet started as a research project through his concern about global paper waste has become a continuously growing collection of furniture. Seemingly useless design magazines are transformed into usable objects. Paper waste as a recycled material thus returns to our living or working space as useful furniture. The shredded magazines are mixed by hand with resin and placed in a mould to harden. Once hardened to wood-like strength, the work is completed by hand. Although a mould is used, each piece is actually handmade and unique because recycled paper is in itself unique and also the exact mix of paper and resin varies from piece to piece, affecting the colour and appearance of the final product.

The table offered here is a display piece that shows a few slight signs of use. We are therefore offering it at a discount. However, the table is in very good overall condition.

This table is currently no longer in production. You can therefore purchase a last piece here.

Jens Praet founded his studio in 2007 in San Gimignano, near Siena in Italy. He studied industrial design in Florence and attended master classes at the renowned Design Academy in Eindhoven under Gijs Bakker, the co-founder of Droog Design. Studio Jens Praet’s work has been exhibited in major international venues and featured in many important design publications and magazines around the world. His shredded side table is part of the permanent collection of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh and the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jens closed his studio in 2017 to concentrate full-time as creative director of the jewellery business of his family.
